heyho everyone.
like many others i have been wondering if there was a wtv for starcraft 2 in the works. i read somewhere that a lan function would not be absolutely necessary so my question is a) are you guys working on such a program? and b) is it possible, do you know how to create wtv for sc2?

i believe i dont have to tell you that this would be a tremendous score for waaaghtv. so im sure that if there is any wtv staff members still active (on this page or anywhere else) you have already considered making a step towards sc2’s and its ginormous market.

so would you be as glad as to provide us, the community (which deeply loves wtv for its easy use, accessibility, performance and reliability), with an update on the current state of affairs? :D

a) we are currently not working on any starcraft 2 version of waaaghtv, sorry.

b) in line with that, we also do not know if it would be possible. It might be, but it might also not be, one would have to analyze the situation before beeing able to make a definite statement. because of this we also cannot tell you how to do it.

the basic idea would probably be identical to the wc3 version, “clone data sent to an observer and broadcast it”, but there may be several key issues i could think of. as starcraft networking certainly differs from warcraft networking, but we do not know, how much, i can not tell you if any of these actually prevent that idea form working.

if you are interested in details, you can come over to irc at #waaaghtv on quakenet, and i could talk you through.

“one would have to analyze the situation before beeing able to make a definite statement.”

well are you analyzing the situation or not? youre being very vague about that.

to me it seems like you (wtv “people”) dont know how/if wtv can work on sc2 but dont give a crap about it anyway. are you not motivated enough to venture into a new game (that by the way has a whole knew dimension of competitive gaming installed for us)? are you not interested in esports anymore? are you fed up with putting so much work into something and not receiving any money for it? has the waaaghtv project been so demoralizing so far that you have lost all passion and ambition for it? do you not have the man power? have you accepted the fate of wtv: dying by the side of wc3?

now i dont mean to be offensive but it just bugs me when i see what great potential lies in this and – in contrast – what is being done about it.
how can you not be trying to really learn all about sc2’s “networking” and get wtv to work on it? and if you are trying, why are you not telling the community about it? you would receive huge support from thousands of people. many of them with valuable know-how.
what i am assuming is that you are not trying. not at all. and i really do hope that im very much mistaken here.
but please give it to me, or us – the community – straight.

are there any plans to find a way to get waaaghtv working for sc2 at the moment or are there not?

straight and simple question. please give me a straight and simple answer. not something like “we have been and in fact are currently considering to create such a program, but we are facing difficulties which is why we are uncertain at the moment and can not make a definite statement.”

im sure you can easily tell me whether this is being worked on or not.

if i say it must be looked at to know the answer, i did not say we do look at it ;/

as there is no real active team right now, and especially the people with the experience from warcraft are missing, we are, at present, not working on anything related to sc2, and also currently do not plan on doing so. (except for playing the game of course :p ) (and except for any secret operations there may be, of which i have no knowledge)

Also i would urge you not to see us obligated to extend our technology to sc2. We simply are not. I can understand if you really want it to exist, and obviously we are the first people to turn to. But it is still our free choice to decide to put effort into such a development or not. So please do not try to provoke us because we don’t.

dude stop the hate ^^

A few thoughts on that:
* There is no Observer functionality in sc2 right now.
* replay functionality has increased a lot already, actually the way replays are stored and played was changed dramatically, to the better in regards to possible features.
* blizzard announced a patch for late 2010 adding functionality “related to tournaments”.(1)

So either blizz will add something like that themselves (as part of the replay functionality) or we/others will come up with something, if they add Observers, otherwise it might be a bit tricky.

(1) “And then, before the end of the year, we’re intending to put out a fairly larger size patch, which has some things related to tournaments or, really, the eSports community.” – Chris Sigaty (SC2 Lead Producer), Blizzcast Episode 14 [27:58]

i must correct you on the observer functionallity, there of course is the possibility to add observers into custom games. The lan mode, which we use so far to host the games to our viewers, is what’s missing.

The lan mode is indeed needed to set up the fake game, however im confident that, if blizz doesnt add broadcasting themselves a loader of sorts or custom game hook can do that without breaking the eula “too much” ^^.
I totally missed the observer feature, busy with the brutal campaign ;)
